Sunshine Girl

My Little Assistant

Loves: Ms. Social is all about eye contact, just don't hold her unless you're a blood relation. She is definitely in the throes of a separation anxiety phase. I must confess I love it when she is shy and hides in my hair or on my shoulder. She is just the sweetest little thing.

One more reason to love Target: double-wide shopping carts

Daddy and Witten continue to be the great loves of her life. Everything is better with one, or both, of them around.

We dropped Daddy off of at tennis one day, but didn't stay for practice. The. Horror.
Camden is also my little cuddle bug. As soon as I pick her up from her crib she buries her face in my shoulder and hugs my neck. Melts my heart! She loves to be held and the majority of tears this month have come when Mom puts her down for any reason.

Her new favorite position for sleeping is on her tummy, preferably with a leg or two sticking out through the crib slats. However, being related to her brother, Camden also has her struggles with motor development and has forgotten how to return to her back and can occasionally wake up grumpy when she is stuck on her stomach.

We can actually sit and read books for 5 to 10 minutes before Camden loses interest. I think bookworm #2 is in the works, which makes me so happy!

Hates: Not getting sufficient attention is certainly a problem for Camden, but the great struggle of her life is waiting too long to be fed. Be it taking too long while nursing, or between bites of solid food, there is nothing worse than those bleak moments of terrible hunger before Mommy finally gets her act together and feeds the poor girl.

Witten has moved on from nap time and now has a one hour-quiet time each day when he reads books.

Despite these great hardships, she continues to be a champion eater! She will easily eat three, sometimes even four, servings of food in one sitting. She will eat any vegetable, is coming to accept the idea of fruits, and started eating pureed meats without batting an eyelash. In addition to all those solids, Camden also nurses at least three times during the day--usually more--and then two or three times at night. I don't know where all the food is going because she is still fairly slim...but I'm not complaining! Keep eating little lady!

Water park for Spring Break!

Spring Break 2.0
There have been some serious bouts of crankiness this month, and I suspect a new tooth or two is on the horizon. Camden is certainly into chewing lately. One time she and Witten were lying on the floor on their backs together when Camden rolled over, grabbed Witten's finger, placed it in her mouth, and bit down, hard! He, of course, screamed and was near inconsolable for a while. She didn't understand what had happened. Oh, siblings.

New Tricks: Camden is confident seated without a pillow, which is always very exciting. She has also actually moved slightly forward when trying desperately to get to a toy. She puts her head down, reaches her right arm forward, her left arm back, pushes off on her toes, and will move maybe an eighth of an inch. Such progress.
Can you handle this Osh Kosh dress?!?!?!

I am quite paranoid when it comes to motor development. In some ways she's progressed further than Witten ever did on his own, but in other ways I see the same delayed tendencies. She refuses to bend her legs while seated, and so cannot move into and out of a seated position. She also doesn't really seem any closer to crawling. She either pushes up with her arms, or pushes forward with her toes--never in tandem, and never any crawling-like motion with her arms. I'm trying to remember back to when Witten was working on these skills in physical therapy to see if I can help jumpstart her into a little more motor independence...

Hanging out in the basement bathroom during a tornado warning. Party!
Camden is such a vocal little lady. She spends much of her time bouncing up and down so that her mouth taps against my shoulder, breaking up her "ahhhhhhhh" into an "ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh." It's very cute, though less so in the middle of sacrament meeting. But still pretty cute. She has also taken to screaming if things get too quiet for her taste, much to Will's chagrin. Raspberries, gurgles, and "da-da-da-das" are also regular vocal patterns each day.
Family Easter Dinner

Everything is fair game to be grabbed in Camden's life. More than once she has ripped the straw of my water bottle out of my mouth; without shame or remorse. She has taken toys from Witten, pulled off Will's sunglasses, and smudged many a pair of glasses of whoever is holding her.

The other morning I was holding Camden on my hip, with my peanut butter and banana bagel on a plate in the hand of the same arm wrapped around her. I was distracted while trying to help Witten get his cereal bowl to the sink without spilling the remnants of his milk, and only looked up in time to watch Camden plunge her hand into my breakfast. She came up with a huge handful of chunky peanut butter, but I managed to prevent her from getting any in her mouth. She certainly keeps me on my toes.

A baby in a towel is basically my kryptonite...
She has slept through the night a handful of times now, though rarely two nights in a row. Two-ish wakes at night is typical, but we'll get there.

All in all Camden is precious and lovely and we are so lucky to have this sweetie in our family!
