A Handful of Love

Hah. So behind.

After several moves and a summer of being on the road I am finally regrouping and trying to record all the memories and milestones. So let's rewind to May when Witten turned seven months old.

Loves: nibbling on the end of his thumb, being up close and personal with people so he can touch faces and pinch cheeks and ears, smiling at one and all (but only from the safety of mom's arms...), and playing with mom's watch

Witten is totally fascinated with his hands. He will lie on his back in his crib or on the floor and hold his arms straight up in the air, wiggling his fingers, twisting his wrists, and staring at his hands in fascination. He also likes to hold his pinky in his fist and shake it back and forth just to watch his hands.

Hates: solid food... It's not necessarily that he hates it, so much as he doesn't see the point when nursing has fulfilled all of his needs up until now. He has an incredible gag reflex, and will throw up just about anything (joy) except for pears. Sometimes he will eat apples or sweet potatoes. Sometimes. He is coming around to the idea of rice cereal and oatmeal. But no vegetables unless they're mixed with pears, and no finger foods, no thank you! He does drink a lot of water though. And I'm sure we will persevere; some day solids will be his only option so I'm hoping he'll be used to them by then.

The first bite...

And the reaction

We love water

New Tricks: He will twist almost onto his stomach to grab toys while playing (but never all the way to his stomach. heaven forbid!), he has also started to take steps while holding onto our fingers. It is his new favorite method of travel. He's not very coordinated yet and trips over his own feet a lot, but he is getting excited at the prospect of being able to move around. Zero interest in tummy time has translated into zero interest in moving via rolling over or crawling and I suspect he may just skip those steps.

The calm before the storm...

Witten has almost perfected the art of sitting up by himself. There have been a couple of flailing crashes followed by some big sobs, but we're getting there.

I also love the many faces of Witten these days. Such a sweetie.

The month of May was a busy one for our family. We packed up and moved out of our apartment, saying good bye to Ashburn. We spent the final few weeks of the school year with a friend before heading out for a summer on the road. Stay tuned.
